Good morning Cougar families! We just concluded a Lockdown drill with law enforcement. We practice these drills several times throughout the year to ensure the safety of everyone. This was just a drill and everyone did a great job!

Hello Cougar families! We had an amazing first week of school! This is a few reminders of the upcoming weeks. School is closed for students and staff on Monday, September 4th, due to the observance of Labor Day. We do practice fire and lockdown drills throughout the school year. These drills help everyone be prepared should an emergency take place. Please know, should an actual emergency occur, you will be notified as soon as possible. If your child is a car rider and you arrive after 7:55, you should be walking your child into school. Please make sure you are not opening doors for other parents. After 7:55, everyone should be using the buzzer and wait to be allowed to come in. This is for safety reasons. Starting Tuesday, September 5th, all PreK students should be dropped off and picked up in the bus circle. Please do not block the drive as the buses do need to enter and exit on time. This will allow PreK parents to sign their child in and out without blocking the car line. I hope you all have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing all students back at school on September 5th.

Good evening Cougar families! I do hope everyone was safe through the storms last night. Tomorrow, MES will be open at our normal times. We will still have our "Independence Day" tomorrow and students will walk to their class on their own. Parents, do not worry. We have plenty of staff throughout the buildings to make sure your child gets to the correct locations. This is a reminder, any student arriving to school between 7:20 and 7:40 will wait in the cafeteria. They will have an opportunity to eat breakfast, if they choose to. It's been a great start of the 2023-2024 school year!

If you’re not getting messages from Middlesex Elementary School, please contact us to set up a meeting and to get your access code for the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This code helps you see your child’s grades, homework, and how they’re doing, and more. For the app and “rooms” to work for your child, make sure you’re signed up for the PowerSchool Parent Portal. It’s essential to stay informed and engaged in your child’s education. If you can’t meet in person, that’s okay. You can setup a virtual meeting. You have to show a proof of identification that proves who you are to get your code. It’s easy, and we’ll help you! PowerSchool Parent Portal is not new. It’s been around for a long time and we have a goal to reach our entire NCPS community. We are all in this together. Thank you!

Important Message from the School Nurse: Attention to parents of Kindergarten, Pre-K and newly transferred students: Please make sure that your student has a copy of completed immunizations on file as well as an updated health assessment from the doctor. These items are required per N.C. law in order for your child to attend school. Students who are not in compliance by 8:00am on September 27th, (after 30 days) will be excluded from school. Please let the nurse know if you need assistance in getting these items turned in to school.

Good afternoon Cougar families! We are so excited to welcome our students back to school Monday, August 28th. This message contains important information for the first week of school. Drop-off times for students are 7:20-7:55. Students arriving between 7:20-7:40 will report to the cafeteria to eat breakfast or wait for a 7:40 bell. At that time, students will report to class. Students who arrive between 7:40-7:55 will have the option of going to the cafeteria to eat breakfast or going straight to class. If your child arrives after 7:55, you are expected to walk your child into school and sign them in. During the first week of school, only PreK parents and Kindergarten parents are allowed to park in the parking lot and walk their child into the school. We understand this may be an emotional time for parents and students and we want to help make that transition as smooth as possible. We also understand setting a normal routine helps with that transition so Friday, September 1st will be our "Independence Day." On this day, we would like for parents not to walk their child to class. We will have staff stationed throughout the building to make sure your child gets to the correct location. This year Middlesex Elementary School will be able to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students. This does not apply to snacks. If you are going to allow your child to buy snacks, please send them with money to purchase those items. During the start of a new school year, we do practice safety drills (fire drills, bus evacuation drills, and lockdown drills). The safety of all our students and staff is top priority. Please know should a true emergency take place, you will be notified as soon as possible. We will start dismissing students at 3:00. If you are picking your child up in the carline, please make sure your child's teacher is aware by sending them a message through the rooms function of your NCPS app. For safety reasons, we do not change students dismissal over the phone. We dismiss students 4 at a time at a certain color cone. Please make sure you pull up to the cone color regardless of where your child is standing. It may take a few days for students to go to the correct location but you can help by making sure you go to the correct cone. All parents should pick up their child by 3:30 each day. For drop off and pickup, please make sure you do not block the staff parking lot. From the road to staff parking lot, parents should be in a single file line. Once you pass the parking lot, you should be in a double line until the cone area. The cone area is for drop off and pickup. For the safety of our students and staff, this area must be single file and no going around other cars. Please be patient. The first week of school is always the slowest as students and parents are learning the process. We can't wait for another great year at Middlesex Elementary! See you tomorrow!
